Who’s Your Hamlet?

Radio Four has recently produced and released a documentary for you to listen to on the William Shakespeare play Hamlet.

Playing the Dane (geddit?) is a reflective piece regarding the different interpretations that have appeared in culture over the years. It also features comments from some very familiar names as well including Tenth Doctor David Tennant and not one but three Masters in the form of Sir Derek Jacobi (right), John Simm and Jonathan Pryce. Kenneth Branagh also makes a contribution and although he is yet to be linked to the world of Doctor Who, it’s surely only a matter of time!

Tennant played Hamlet both on stage and on screen in two very successful adaptations of the play in 2008 and 2009, whilst his counterpart John Simm has taken the role this year.

Jacobi and Pryce interpreted the most famous theatrical role in the 1980’s (funny how these things seem to be in alignment…)

Has anyone been lucky enough to see any of these familiar faces playing the titular leading role? Who’s your favourite (or even: Who mastered the role?)?

Playing the Dane is available until Saturday 30th October 2010 on BBC iPlayer.

What happens when an eight year old kid watches the 1993 repeat run of Planet of the Daleks? He pretty much ends up here writing about the show that grabbed hold of him and never let go!
