2entertain have sent Kasterborous cleared, final artwork images of the new Doctor Who Series 5 Special Edition DVD and Blu-ray Disc boxset tins!
Set to be released on Monday, 8th November 2010, this limited edition boxset features two key differences from the standard edition release:
- Numbered Special Packaging
- This 6-Disc Jumbo Steelbook contains a Collector’s Booklet with foreword from Steven Moffat (Producer) and 4 illustrated Artcards
So now you’ve got a decision to make – buy the standard version, or the steel tin version?
As previously reported, the boxset also features some fantastic extras including exclusively filmed scenes giving you an insight to what has happened in the TARDIS between episodes, as well as a Matt Smith video diary, and Doctor Who Confidentials for each episode and the Monster Diaries from each volume.
The “between episodes” extras are available to US fans too, and are described in the LA Times as:
“…A truly tantalizing extra: two newly filmed sequences, both written by Steven Moffat and available only in this collection. They are called “Meanwhile, in the TARDIS…” and, as that title suggests, they are drop-in moments that show what happens between the episodes”
The DVD features these episodes:
- The Eleventh Hour
- The Beast Below
- Victory of the Daleks
- The Time of Angels
- Flesh and Stone
- Vampires of Venice
- Amy’s Choice
- The Hungry Earth
- Cold Blood
- Vincent and the Doctor
- The Lodger
- The Pandorica Opens
- The Big Bang
Remember – you can purchase the Doctor Who Series 5 Special Edition DVD from Amazon for just £51.47 and the Special Edition Blu-ray Tin for just £58.47

I would be very surprised if the standard DVD edition doesnt have the collectors booklet that the previous 5 New series sets have. That leaves the only difference being a numbered tin…… nah!!
Agreed, I can’t give a stuff about this special edition. I don’t care about the specially filmed scenes, either.
Having read about ‘something special about to be announced in the world of Who DVDs,’ am frankly underwhelmed.
I was expecting ‘The Daleks’ Masterplan’ reconstituted using top notch CGI’ or something truly staggering. Bit unrealistic of me, really.
