Fans Petition For Tennant To Raise The Torch

It might have been one of the most cringe-worthy moments of Nu-Who but this hasn’t stopped fans from petitioning for it to become a reality.

Over 5000 people have signed on the dotted line to see David Tennant carry the 2012 Olympic torch dressed as the Tenth Doctor- recreating the finale of series two episode Fear Her.

The Facebook page certainly has a long time to generate support and is currently looking for new ways to get more fans interested (hmm…if only there was a website which could link to it? Oh well)

As landmark numbers are hit the site is rewarding signators with fan made videos celebrating all things Who such as:  Tenth Doctor: The Musical, Series 1-5 Ultimate Trailer, a Series One trailer, a Sherlock/Doctor Who mash up and a fan made trailer of the 2010 Christmas Special.

Fear Her has the dubious distinction of being the lowest ranking episode of the new run in Doctor Who Magazine’s The Mighty 200 – reaching 192nd place.

To relive the moment and decide whether you want to see it a reality head over to the iPlayer before it disappears this Friday.

You can sign the petition right here.

About the Author

Everyone has a favourite Doctor and mine - just for his honesty, his fairness and his ability to not notice the Master's awful, awful disguises/anagrams (Sir Gilles Estram!?!) - has to be the Fifth Doctor, Peter Davison. The stories didn’t serve him as well as his acting served those stories.

Well, if David gets a move on he might be able to excel sufficiently in sport to qualify to carry the final torch. But they reserve that post for well-known athletes. A more realistic (if slightly unlikely) scenario would be for Tennant to become a celebrity Olympic flag-bearer as they often get noted actors and others to carry it. For example, I’ll be very surprised if Sean Connery isn’t one of them.

I’ve been saying this ever since the episode! I’m going over to sign. “Well known athlete” be damned, I want DT! :)

Who really wants to be reminded of this episode? Shall we wheel in Huw Edwards in all his stuttering, badly acted, horribly written voice over fail glory? I think I’ve just vomited on my keyboard! If only I could wipe it from my brain with mind-erasers…

I love this episode! Yes please, David Tennant!

This would be awesome! people will love it and if not, oh well make us Whovian’s happy!

Gods, this would make my life. Seriously.

Let’s do it in reverse. Let’s take the film of whichever athlete actually carries the torch, and then edit it in to ‘Fear Her’ to replace the Doctor, and release it as a new edition that’s been mercifully relieved of the worst moment in the modern show’s history . . .

There’s a couple different petitions. I saw one that has over 30,000 signatures.

David Tennant must carry the olympic torch or we risk tearing a hole through the fabric of time.
