Stranded for Nevermore!

The first adventure for the Eighth Doctor and his new companion takes them to the prison planet of Nevermore, in this new Doctor Who story from Big Finish.

Starring Paul McGann as the Doctor, we won’t reveal just yet who his new companion is, just in case you haven’t yet heard Situation Vacant – but you’ll be interested to know that this release also not only features Emilia Foxas Berenice but also Fenella Woolgar as Morella Wendigo.

Woolgar previously appeared as Agatha Christie in 2008′s TV episode The Unicorn and the Wasp, and is joined by another TV episode guest actor, Eric Loren, who in 2007 donned the tentaclur headgear of the first human Dalek, Sec, in Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks. Here he plays Pilot, which at this stage we’re unsure as to whether he is a pilot, “Pilot” is his name, or both. John Banks (Ravens)

A bizarre manifestation in the Control Room forces the TARDIS onto the Plutonian shores of the irradiated world Nevermore, whose sole inhabitant is the war criminal Morella Wendigo – a prisoner of this devastated planet. But the Doctor and his new companion aren’t Morella’s only visitors. Senior Prosecutor Uglosi fears the arrival of an assassin, after the blood of his prize prisoner. An assassin with claws…

There’s no escape from Nevermore, whose raven-like robot jailers serve to demonstrate Uglosi’s macabre obsession with the works of the 19th century horror writer Edgar Allan Poe. An obsession that might yet lead to the premature burial of everyone on the planet’s surface – wreathed in the mist they call the Red Death!

This isn’t exactly a classic Doctor Who adventure, but Tamsin is a marvelous companion. What really needs to be mentioned on this site is the latest release, The Book of Kells, also available as a CD and download release. I won’t spoil any of the surprises therein, but suffice it to say that there are surprises. Big, BIG surprises (note the plural). In fact, it might just possibly be the best Big Finish Eighth Doctor release yet.

And let’s not forget the magnificent “Cradle of the Snake”, also available this month. Perfect for those who just couldn’t get enough of the Mara…
