Matt Smith – GQ Actor of the Year!

Huge congratulations to Doctor Who star Matt Smith – he’s picked up the GQ Actor of the Year award!

After several months of “awards hangover” as the later days of the Russell T Davies/David Tennant era have been repeatedly honoured, the 2010 series – a brand new era for the show and a departure from the previous 4 years – has been recognised twice in consecutive evenings, with Karen Gillan picking up an award for Best Family Drama at the TV Choice Awards.

Matt Smith received his prize from artist Tracey Emin at the GQ Men of the Year awards event on Tuesday evening, at an event hosted by actor James Nesbitt which also featured a prize for Prime Minister David Cameron!?

Also at the awards was Quantum of Solace, and Tess of the D’Urbervilles star, actress Gemma Arterton, who was named Woman of the Year – she starred alongside David Tennant in St Trinian’s 2: The Legend of Fritton’s Gold in 2009.

    Thoroughly deserved. Well done Matt.

That’s one in the eye for his very very small band of critics.

And I wonder what Trevor Eve’s view is on Matts success? :)

Alice Cooper was at that event, he’s getting into acting these days, wonder if he pitched Matt for a job on Who?

Well done though Matt, he is a superb actor.

    • I love Alice Cooper, so I hope so! It would be great to see him in Doctor Who in a completely un-Alice role.
