We’ve all thought about it at some point, maybe others have actually done it. It’s built in to every Doctor Who fans nature to want to own their own Dalek. But this would be very expensive to actually do.

Unless you plan to build one.

And that’s exactly what one fan wanted to try many years ago so he wrote to the BBC asking for the blueprints for the construction on one of the metal meanies. And not only did he get a reply but also got the instructions sent to him on how to build one.

The fan, known only as Ronald, wrote to the production office in the early 1980’s (when John Nathan Turner was the Producer of the show) making his request. He got send back the full plans with only one request, that the Dalek was built and used only for personal use (ooo-err!).

The full plans can be found at www.dvice.com although bear in mind that the Daleks here are the older design and not the post-Time War Daleks that we’re now used to.

Anyone game? Got the time and inclination to actually do this? If so, send us in your finished pictures!

What happens when an eight year old kid watches the 1993 repeat run of Planet of the Daleks? He pretty much ends up here writing about the show that grabbed hold of him and never let go!
