Vworp 3 – a Recollection

Back in July, I travelled to Manchester to take part in Vworp 3, the latest Doctor Who “mini-con” to take place at the Lass O’Gowrie pub. The third event in a series of “pubcons”, Vworp 3 followed Vworp 2 – NovelCon in October 2009 and Vworp 1 in 2008.

Doctor Who director Graeme Harper was among the guests at Vworp 3Each of the previous events had focussed on a particular element of Doctor Who spinoff media – Vworp Vworp!/Vworp 1 focussed on Doctor Who Magazine and comic strips, while NovelCon looked at  the Virgin and BBC novels.

This time, rather than head down the obvious route and look at Doctor Who audios, mastermind Gareth Kavanagh opted to mix things up and invite an interesting selection of guests to discuss their “favourite things” about their involvement with Doctor Who.

The schedule for the day looked a bit like this:

9:30am Doors open
10am Dez Skinn (with Gareth Kavanagh)
11am Rob Shearman (with Christian Cawley)
12pm Sophie Aldred (with Charlie Ross)
1pm Lunch
2pm Terrance Dicks (with John Cooper)
3pm Chris Achilleos (with Ade Salmon)
4pm Andrew Cartmel (with Gareth Kavanagh)
5pm Teabreak
5:30pm Graeme Harper

With some minor chopping around, that’s pretty much how the day proceeded; Doctor Who stars and creators chatting with video clips or stills about their involvement with the show. All this of course was interspersed with the smashing hospitality afforded at The Lass, with a great menu available through most of the day.
