Torchwood’s New World Order

The Hollywood Reporter claims that further details of Torchwood Series 4 have become known – and that the 10 part serial thriller has the umbrella title of The New World.

Torchwood Series 4 newsAccording to the popular showbiz trade paper, Torchwood itself is nothing more than a legend by 2011; personnel remembered but never seen or spoken to…

The new story will follow a CIA agent (Rex) and analyst (Ester) who tackle an alien-related global issue. Torchwood, having been destroyed and disbanded, is “like a legend now … it’s like something that’s ceased to exist and is now spoken of only in whispers.” Soon, Rex and Ester are on the run and are seeking out the help of Captain Jack and Gwen.

As revealed a few days ago, a team of writers has already been assembled. With John Barrowman and Eve Myles reprising Jack Harkness and Gwen Cooper, and with Russell T Davies and Julie Gardner both on hand as Executive Producers, it finally seems that the BBC Wales/BBC Worldwide/Starz co-production is coming together!

Russell T Davies is also quick to placate existing Torchwood fans that like their share of alien bonking in the shape of (Group) Captain Jack Harkness:

“If the story demands intimacy or savagery, we will go there absolutely … [but] there’s nothing better than a great big global thriller that stops for a sex scene — it’s probably hard to make that happen in a thriller.”

So – a new world for Torchwood. Or is it something more? A new world order, perhaps…?
