Torchwood: “A long, slow process.”

To say that we’ve got a lot of Torchwood news over the next couple of days is something of an understatement; just call us www.thefaceofboe.com for the foreseeable future!

Russell T Davies on developing Torchwood Series 4We’re going to cover Russell T Davies’ recent interview in SFX today and tomorrow, as well as the recent press release from Starz in which some interesting facts about Torchwoos Series 4 characters and background are revealed.

But first, the man in charge, Russell T Davies, who spoke recently to SFX about Torchwood Series 4 (see the full interview in SFX 199). Back in February, we reported on two occasions quotes from Captain Jack Harkness actor John Barrowman about the lack of information about Torchwood Series 4. Things looked… gloomy, shall we say, but it seems that this is part and parcel of setting up a co-production.

According to Russell T Davies, the next series of Torchwood was proceeding apace!

“It’s a long, slow process,” Davies explains. “It was December until I got around to writing the script of part one, and theny you’ve got to set up all the meetings. From the outside it must have looked like it was dead, but we must have talked about it literally every day. And setting up a deal between Starz and BBC Worldwide and the BBC itself was very complicated.

“We don’t start filming until January, for transmission to some time well into next year.”

So – there is a long way to go yet for Torchwood Series 4, which is effectively still in pre-production.
