Captain John Threatens Tickles
Actor James Masters has spoken to i09.com about the secret to playing a villain convincingly – and references his character Captain John who was a recurring nemesis for Captain Jack and his team in Torchwood series 2.
James played evil-and-then-reformed vampire Spike in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its LA based spin off Angel. He also played naughty characters in Smallville and Caprica. When asked how he got into the mindset of various nefarious characters, Marsters remarked:
“You have to come to grips with the fact that it’s fun to hurt people. That’s a hard thing to admit. But there actually is a rush to it. And if you give in to it, then you’re evil.â€
And what of his Torchwood character Captain John, last seen walking off from the Torchwood hub to explore the world and see what it had to offer? James honestly doesn’t know yet but since the show is being made in America, it should be a lot easier for the man himself to hopefully get involved with the role again to cause more trouble for Captain Jack and Gwen Cooper. He does seem very keen to reprise the role and even made this promise to Russell T Davies if he doesn’t get a call from him:
“If he doesn’t call me, then I am going to find him. I will tickle him until he bleeds.â€
We’ll keep you updated on that one.
When Torchwood comes back it simply has to involve Captain John in a bigger role. Marsters bought a huge chunk of personality to the show which really helped “sell†it to a larger audience. But it all comes down to opinion, what do you think, Kasterborousions (it’s a word), should Captain John come back for another showdown?
