Bernice Animation Poster

Doctor Who spinoff from Big Finish - Bernice SummerfieldBig Finish have released a smashing new poster featuring the animated version of Bernice Summerfield, as voiced by Lisa Bowerman in the forthcoming 10 minute CGI short, Bernice Summerfield: Dead and Buried, which will be available online absolutely free in September.

Summerfield is the creation of Paul Cornell (Father’s Day, Human Nature) and first appeared in the Virgin Books adventure Love and War in which she became a long-term companion of the Seventh Doctor.

Eventually, Benny – as she is affectionately known – moved to Big Finish and has been voiced by Lisa Bowerman ever since. Dead and Buried heralds the start of a brand new series of adventures for the archeologist, who is possibly the longest-running spinoff character in western culture. In fact, as Lisa told us in 2009:

“I found on some internet site that she’s one of the longest running ongoing characters out there. She’s way beyond a spinoff niche now – she’s pretty buoyant!”

Animator Alex Mallinson, who we’ll be interviewing in a few weeks time, says:

“It’s taken weeks of patient construction, animation, rendering and compositing but it doesn’t truly spring to life until Matthew Cochrane’s evocative sound design is added. ”
