You Shall Become a Dalek!

Doctor Who - Dalek voice ring modulator app for iPhone, iPod Touch, iPadYou know the score-you’re home alone, just watched an episode of Doctor Who featuring the Daleks and before you can stop yourself, you’re doing your own impression of the metal meanies. The only problem is that you can’t emulate their grating tones in the same way that Nick Briggs does because you don’t have a ring modulator (the device that enabled the signal-processing method that was used to create the grating, mechanical tones of the Daleks back in the ‘60s, and is still used today by voice artist Nick Briggs) to hand.

Well worry no more because if you own an iPhone, iPod Touch or an iPad (wot no Android? – Ed) you can now download a rather nifty little app called the iExterminate which changes your voice into that of a Dalek!

Completely unofficial and in no way linked to the BBC, the app comes loaded with 4 pre recorded phrases and four preset settings. So as soon as you download it, you speak into the phones mic, record your phrase and then apply one of the preset modulations to get yourself “Dalek-ised” straight away.

There is also a suspicious looking Dalek eye staring at you when you open the app which actually lets you manually adjust the modulation for your specific needs!

This genius little invention is guaranteed to raise a giggle and is a steal at 59p (at least 10% of profits will be going to the Alzheimer’s Society). If you have the opportunity, get this now!

The full review can be found at SFX.com with an audio advert for the app which sounds an awful lot like Nick Briggs doing a Davros impression!

What happens when an eight year old kid watches the 1993 repeat run of Planet of the Daleks? He pretty much ends up here writing about the show that grabbed hold of him and never let go!

No mention of the official BBC “I Am A Dalek” app? http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/iamadalek-doctor-who/id374939832?mt=8

    • There is now! Cheers slothdog

      • @slothdog – hey just tuned into your show – can’t beat a bit of supertramp. See you’re on Live365 – how do you find it? I had a show on there YEARS ago (this seems to be all that exists online to back me up: http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/atomickarma_fans/?v=1&t=directory&ch=web&pub=groups&sec=dir&slk=659) but had a lot of trouble with keeping it fresh.

Hey, thanks for listening! I actually still update the playlist on my station daily through some mostly automated scripts I wrote, though it doesn’t get as many listeners as it used
to. I think these days most people prefer more personalized ways of listening to music, like Pandora.

I was actually wondering today if I could get away with an all Doctor Who station, playing audio s from Big Finish and such, but I don’t think the Live365 licensing would technically cover that.
