Think back to 2007, when you watched Daleks in Manhattan and Evolution of the Daleks for the first time. Remember that one guy? With the funny accent? Specifically, the Tennessean funny accent? His name was Frank?
Frank is now Spider-Man.
Well, his name isn’t really Frank; the actor tends to prefer being called Andrew Garfield.
In case you who haven’t been following, or can’t remember, Spider-Man 4 was originally supposed to star the usual guy, Tobey Maguire, until he backed out and Sony Pictures decided to restart the film franchise altogether.
Garfield is the fruit of the reboot. Sony says,
“Today’s confirmation culminates what has been one of the most eagerly anticipated casting announcements in recent memory.
“Bloggers, pop culture speculators, and everyday fans have pored over and analyzed every conceivable online rumor in an attempt to discover the identity of the next actor to play Peter Parker.
“Garfield will immediately begin preparing for the coveted role.”
“Most eagerly anticipated casting announcements in recent memory?” If the whole David-Tennant’s-leaving-so-who’s-going-to-fill-his-shoes-hey-look-it’s-Matt-Smith-wait-who’s-he? experience we Whovians have had over the last couple years hadn’t happened, we might have agreed.
As a side dish, who should the first foe of this “new series” of Spider-Man be? My money’s on the Empress of the Racnoss.

Everyone’s so eager to just reboot things these days… thankfully Doctor Who was spared that even after a much longer gap than these various film franchises have had.
I think Star Trek was cleverly re-booted in a way which did’nt ignore what had gone before. But some other examples are not so good.
Maybe Davros could turn up as the new Goblin, with amazing new chair. Or Omega in Doctor Doom garb.
Didn’t “The Big Bang” reboot Doctor Who? According to “The Lodger” the fifth to eighth Doctors are no longer canon.
I wasn’t keen on Star Trek but I will admit Batman needed a reboot and got a hell of a good one.
Paul, do I need to watch the Lodger again as I appear to have missed that point?
