Who’s for Torchwood?
So, Torchwood Series 4 has been announced and will hopefully commence filming soon. It’s going to be a co-production between BBC Wales, BBC Worldwide and US cable channel Starz (who have just released Spartacus: Blood and Sand). John Barrowman is back as Captain Jack and Eva Myles is returning as Gwen Cooper.
But with most of the original cast killed off within the first 3 series, the rumours have started to churn of who will star alongside the lead actors. In its TV and Radio blog, The Guardian have started the rumour mill with a huge list of American actors that they feel would fit into the show. To name a few:
-James Marsters (Spike in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Captain John Hart in Torchwood Series 2)
-Eliza Dushku (Faith in Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
-Nathan Fillion (Captain Malcolm Reynolds in Firefly)
-Seth Green (Scott Evil in Austin Powers)
-Dominic Monaghan (Charlie in Lost, Merry in The Lord of the Rings trilogy)
-Kiefer Sutherland (Jack Bauer in 24)
Not to mention some of the characters that were introduced in Torchwood: Children of Earth…
Whilst all these actors would be great if they appeared, the first order should really be to establish who the writers will be. Russell T Davies should definitely pen an episode and maybe even invite some other talented Doctor Who writers to join the fold, namely: Paul Cornell, Steven Moffat, Gareth Roberts and Mark Gatiss. Most of these writers contributed to some gritty stories to The New Adventures range in the 1990’s and could no doubt do well without having the family friendly conditions of Doctor Who to write for.
