The Big Bang is Coming…

So – what’s it all about, really? We know very little about how the finale of the current series of Doctor Who will turn out – but that doesn’t mean we cannot speculate.

Doctor Who - The Big Bang stars Matt Smith and a Stone DalekThere are no spoilers here – only speculation.

Matt Smith has already referred to a “returning element” in a recent interview – but who? Is he referring to a returning villain, for instance, such as the Dream Lord (Toby Jones) from Amy’s Choice, or perhaps to little Amelia Pond (Caitlin Blackwood) last seen in The Eleventh Hour?

And what of this – a “Stone Dalek” seen here approaching the Doctor?

As if trying to work out how Rory, Amy, River and the Doctor can possibly escape the final moments of The Pandorica Opens wasn’t enough, we also have the problem of trying to find all of the timey wimey elements from the previous episodes that may or may not feature in the finale.

General fandom consensus – lead by the “appearance” of a “future Doctor” in Flesh and Stone – has settled on the idea that equipped with the Vortex Manipulator purchased by River Song in the last episode, the Doctor will somehow escape the Pandorica and travel through time to manipulate events in his favour.

It’s a tasty idea and as we’ve seen so far in episodes such as The Girl in the Fireplace and Blink, only one man could pull it off – Steven Moffat himself!
