Smith wants McKellen

The Doctor Vs. Magneto? Or perhaps the Doctor Vs. Gandalf?

This isn’t ramblings of a fan fiction writer hyped on no sleep and Sunny D but the idea of the Doctor himself Matt Smith.

The Time Lord has told Digital Spy that he would love Sir Ian McKellen play a villain in the next series of Doctor Who.

Ian McKellen - could he guest in Doctor Who?Asked which actors he would most like to see in Who, Smith commented that he would love The Lord of the Rings and X-Men actor:

“Actors? There are just so many! It’s like when people ask you your favourite album. You go, ‘I love music so much I’ve got 20!’. Maybe Ian McKellen would be quite interesting to come and do one. He could be a cool baddie, couldn’t he?”

Matt Smith also had a few ideas about who The Grand Moff should approach to write an episode of  Doctor Who next season:

“I’d really like a writer called Simon Stevens [playwright of Pornography, a play about 7/7 bombings which introduced a new definition of "pornography" in our culture] to write an episode, and Joe Penal [sic] [Joe Penhall, the writer of Moses Jones] I think he’s pretty brilliant – I’d love him to do one.”

Smith also said he would be willing to appear in a multi-Doctor episode, as long as Moffat could come up with a ‘brilliant’ idea for it.

So which Who villain would you like to see McKellen tackle? The Master? The Valeyard? The Black Guardian (the last actor to play the role Valentine Dyall, bears a slight resemblance to Mckellen)?

Let us know!

About the Author

Everyone has a favourite Doctor and mine - just for his honesty, his fairness and his ability to not notice the Master's awful, awful disguises/anagrams (Sir Gilles Estram!?!) - has to be the Fifth Doctor, Peter Davison. The stories didn’t serve him as well as his acting served those stories.

i love the idea of mckellen playing the black guardian, but the character seems to beg more than just a one-off episode. even two could be a bit of a waste.

moffat seems to have more of a taste for b&w who – how about the meddling monk? or, why not a whole new villain?

Oh, I like this. The Black Guardian idea is a great one actually, he doesn’t half look the part!

Black Guardian would be incredible played by McKellen. I kinda miss the character so would be great to see it back if they could get McKellen to play the part.

Could I suggest Patrick Stewart as the white guardian or would that be too ‘x-men’?

McKellen would be great in just about any part, really. I’d love to see him as the new Master! Or the Meddling monk, a totally new character, just about anything, really….
