Doctor Who star Matt Smith has rebuked claims that his Doctor is sexy – calling the ancient time traveller ‘bumbly’.
Speaking to Bang Showbiz the actor spoke of his surprise at his character being labelled ‘sexy’.
“Sexy?” he said. “Do you think he’s sexy? The Doctor’s a bit bumbly, isn’t he? He doesn’t really know what to do with women.”
Not only is Matt Smith wise in the face of media hype about his characters sex appeal, he is also taking mature steps when dealing with the oncoming (media) storm.
He also claims that people unsurprisingly have been treating him differently since he became the most popular character in SF (that’s right and I’m including Alpha Centauri in that.)
“There’s no doubt that when you’re on screen every week, people look at you differently and you just have to adapt to that,” he said. “The way you’d adapt if, say, your hair turned white overnight. A lot depends on the context of your life – maybe if you’ve grown up with a family who were famous or something, you’d have a different perspective, but for me it’s a totally new thing and I try to adapt as intelligently as I can.”
Sexy or not, the Doctor can been seen in the final episode The Big Bang on Saturday at 18:05 on BBC 1 and BBC HD.
