Saucy Amy!

Karen Gillan plays sexy Doctor Who companion Amy Pond“She’s got a sexy side and she’s confident enough to wear those kinds of things.”

That’s the final word – we hope – on the recent “Amy is too sexy for Doctor Who” storm that has been stirred up by fascist rag The Daily Mail and religio-fascist group MediaWatch UK. Speaking to co-star Matt Smith in a special video interview on the BBC Official Doctor Who website, Gillan explained:

“I was part of the costume process. I like to think I had a bit of input there. I worked with the costume designer and we just thought that was one of the things that Amy likes to wear.”

Gillan, who before the first episode of the new series The Eleventh Hour had previously appeared in The Fires of Pompeii in 2008, added:

“You know, she’s a 21-year-old girl. Most 21-year-olds do wear clothes like that. I think with my input in it there’s obviously stuff that I like in there and stuff that I would wear, but it’s put with a different top that I wouldn’t wear.”

Doctor Who returns this week with Amy’s Choice, on Saturday, 15th May at 6.25pm on BBC One

Yeah, sounds about right for the Daily Mail to jump on any old bandwagon to sell a few more copies of its’ tawdry little rag.As for Mediawatch, there are morally repugnant and borderline offensive programs scattered across the channels every week, but it’s only something as high-profile and successful as Doctor Who that’ll garner them any publicity……
