Doctor, The Lodger

Episode 11 of the current series of Doctor Who has been confirmed on the BBC website as being titled The Lodger - and interestingly is based on a Gareth Roberts comic strip from 2006.

James Corden and Matt Smith in Doctor WhoLike Blink before it, The Lodger is based on a strip – this time a Roberts strip from Doctor Who Magazine in which the Tenth Doctor stays with Mickey Smith for a week while the TARDIS drifts without him.

The Lodger is one of the last episodes to be recorded, and is also the episode in which James Corden – best known to TV viewers as Smithy from the puzzlingly popular Gavin & Stacey – guests with Smith, and it also featured a football match. Dedicated Doctor Who fans will know that Matt Smith had early hopes of being a footballer that were dashed through injury.

Roberts’ previous scripts for the series include The Unicorn and the Wasp and The Shakespeare Code, so expect plenty of smug in jokes and humour. The Lodger airs on Saturday, 10th June.
