US Build Up
In advance of the new series on BBC America on Saturday at 9/8c, Thursday, 15th April sees Matt, Karen and Steven at the Village East Cinema in New York for the official premiere screening of The Eleventh Hour, followed by a Q&A moderated by USA Today (submit a question here).
Earlier this week meanwhile, the Eleventh Doctor, Amy Pond and the man who wrote their first two adventures dropped in to the Paley Center for Media to view the screening of Who’s Next? The New Era of Doctor Who set to air on BBC America this week before The Eleventh Hour. You can see images from this event at Holy Moly.
It’s a lot more low-key than last year’s San Diego Comic Con event which saw screaming and adoring fans lapping up the atmosphere as David Tennant and John Barrowman took to the stage – nevertheless, there are high hopes for Smith and Gillan, according to The Mirror:
“Doctor Who has a cult following in the States thanks to David Tennant, but bosses are really hopeful that Matt and Karen can help to make the series even bigger.
“If the Doctor can work his magic, the pair will become worldwide stars.”
Finally, in light of all of this State-side buildup, Shadowlocked are featuring an interesting post by Caleb Leland about growing up in the USA as a Doctor Who fan.
