During the late 1950s and 1960s he appeared in The ITV Play Of The Week (1958), International Detective (1960), The Saint (1963) and two episodes of The Prisoner (1968).
However, it is his work during the golden age of classic Doctor Who that he will be remembered for. Max appeared in several of the Third and Fourth Doctor stories in varying capacities, first starring as a U.N.I.T. soldier in two episodes of The Ambassadors Of Death (1970) before returning in 1974 in The Monster Of Peladon (1974) as a miner.
Faulkner then popped up during the Jon Pertwee swansong Planet Of The Spiders in the uncredited role of Second Guard Captain. Later in 1975 Max appeared in three Fourth Doctor adventures, Genesis Of The Daleks as a Thal Guard and then another uncredited role of Crew Member in Planet Of Evil. He had a more substantial part in The Android Invasion starring in all four episodes as Corporal Adams.
After a stint as stunt arranger on the Sarah Jane Smith final adventure The Hand Of Fear in 1976, Max came back in two more uncredited roles, as a Guard in The Face Of Evil and as a Rebel in The Sun Makers, both in 1977. Then in 1978 Max starred in the final four episodes of the Sontaran story The Invasion Of Time.
Other notable appearances were in The Goodies episode “Alternative Roots” in 1977, Blake’s 7 in 1980 and in 1981 in the stunning BBC adaptation of The Day Of The Triffids.
