Mara DVD Boxset

Classic Doctor Who serials Kinda and Snakedance are set to be released in a DVD boxset, reveals 2entertain‘s Twitter feed.

Starring Peter Davison as the Doctor, with Janet Fielding as Tegan, Sarah Sutton and Nyssa and (in Kinda only) Matthew Waterhouse as Adric, Kinda (1982) and Snakedance (1983) pits the travellers – and particularly Tegan – against the will of the malevolent Mara, a psychovore that manifests physically as a giant snake.

The following video reveals that the Mara Tales boxset will be made released in 2011…

As you can see from the trailer, it seems that the now dated giant rubber snake has been replaced with a CGI version, which may or may not be optional.

If you look at the clip at around 1.04, that does’nt look like the inflatable snake from the 1982 broadcast.
    The trailer is pretty cool.

I hope they don’t replace the Mara at the end of Snakedance with a CGI one, as the original was pretty good.

The glimpse of the Kinda snake in this clip looks good, but it might not work when it appears in bigger detail.

Some of these CGI tricks are all very well, but they don’t gel with the other visuals from the old stories, a case in point being the CGI ships in ‘Enlightenment’ – can’t understand why they bothered changing them to CGI, as again, the originals were good.

Hi Leosw4 – unfortunately I wasn’t able to get all the way through the clip, so I’ll have to check that when I get home…

Interesting point from CastellanSpandrell – updated CGI should really only be there as an option (I think it has to date) as for me, often it doesn’t work in the right way.

Hey I take it back on the CGI front, that looks pretty decent from the trailer.
