Regional accents are all the rage on TV these days, and Doctor Who is no different. From the show that coined the phrase “every planet has a north” comes the girl from Inverness, Karen Gillan.
Speaking to Scots newspaper The Press and Journal, Gillan revealed how pleased she was to be using her own accent as opposed to a more straightforward plain English voice.
“It’s strange in some ways as the role is already established and the bar set very high, so I have a lot to live up to.
“I hope I have done a good job and am delighted at being able to use my own accent.
“I definitely need to get a right enuff in there somewhere.â€
