Matt’s Doctor Explained

A video interview with new Doctor Who Matt Smith accompanies a WalesOnline feature on the recent press launch, in which the actor gives some more insight into how he approached the role.

Matt Smith is Doctor WhoWe’ve all heard about the Einstein references by now – but there is much more to Smith’s interpretation it seems. One thing is for sure, there can be no doubt that he understands the importance and possibilities inherent in the part.

Of the Doctor, Matt Smith says:

“He’s a thrill seeker, addicted to time travel. He is the mad buffoon genius who saves the world because he’s got a great heart, spirit and soul, but he doesn’t suffer fools. I hope these things come across, but I think I’ve also injected a bit of my own personality into the role.

“He’s not A or B, he’s A to Z in two lines. He can be anyone, he can be anything, so he asks for complete invention.”

As if you didn’t know by now, The Eleventh Hour airs this Saturday, 3rd April on BBC One at 6.20pm.
