Karen Gillan: Freaky Doll

Karen Gillan spoke to The Daily Record recently about the new job that has taken her from obscurity to fame – as a co-star in Doctor Who.

Karen Gillan - freaked out by the Amy Pond dollAs Amy Pond, Gillan will be the Doctor’s latest companion, and the second redhead of recent years. Being The Daily Record, they also quizzed the actress about being Scottish – but the best part is Karen’s thoughts on her action figure, and seeing it on the shelves of shops this Christmas.

Karen shrieks: “It’s freaky being a doll. And it looks uncannily like me.

“It really is a miniature version of yourself.

“But it would be a bit weird if I gave Amy Pond dolls to everyone this Christmas.”

Meanwhile, Gillan’s mother is famously a fan of Doctor Who, resulting in the actress keeping her casting a secret until the day of the announcement in 2009. Nevertheless, she’ll be watching the show with her parents and her nine-year-old niece Caitlin Blackwood, who you might have already seen in the trailer…

“I will be watching it with my family,” explains Karen. “And I want to see Caitlin’s face when she watches it.”

Karen Gillan appears as Amy Pond with Matt Smith as the Doctor in The Eleventh Hour, debuting in the UK on Saturday, 3rd April!
