She’s young, sexy and she’s the Doctor’s new companion – Karen Gillan was bound to be chatting to BBC Radio 1 and its lowbrow Newsbeat bulletin about Doctor Who sooner or later, wasn’t she?
Gillan – Amy Pond in the new series – has revealed her anxiety about the launch of Doctor Who in 2010. She’s “completely nervous” apparently, although in fairness she’s pretty confident about her own character.
“Amy is a very sassy young lady,” she said. “She’s not completely in awe of the Doctor all the time, there’s none of that. She doesn’t take his word as gospel.”
That might remind you of someone the Doctor travelled with until relatively recently, although of course the comparisons with Catherine Tate’s Donna Noble were always going to be there when Steven Moffat’s team cast a redhead.
Speaking of the forthcoming UK tour to promote the series, Gillan said:
“We are going to have a great big Doctor Who tour bus, which is going to be so much fun. We want it to be like the Spice World bus from the Spice Girls film!”
