Continuing Adventures of the 10th Doctor

Doctor Who Ongoing #9 A new series of adventures for the Tenth Doctor have been announced by IDW this weekend – leaving fans of the previous incarnation of the Doctor all of a flutter at the Gallifrey One convention.

Remarkably, the Doctor Who Ongoing series is set to continue with the Tenth Doctor as its star rather than the Eleventh Doctor. Happily Tony Lee is to continue as writer, with IDW Doctor Who editor Denton Tipton remarking of his work on the series:

“Tony has totally got the flavor down, and of all the Doctor Who stuff that I’ve read, I think he’s the best at actually getting the voice down,” said Tipton of Lee’s ongoing adventures featuring the Tenth Doctor, the outgoing Tennant.

“You can read it and actually hear David Tennant’s voice. It’s almost a performance the way he does it. And his plots are solid. It’s fun, sci-fi romp kind of stuff.”

With artwork from Blair Shedd (as seen to the right) Martha Jones is also set to return in this series of strips, while the reprinted strips from Doctor Who Magazine are also set to continue.

Arguably more exciting than the news of the ongoing Tenth Doctor adventures continuing is news that US fans will get their own Doctor Who annual in 2010, a TARDIS-centric collection of stories from four different writers including Lee.

“The ongoing is the first ongoing ‘Doctor Who’ series and this will be our first annual,” explained Tipton. “The U.K. annuals are always reprints, oversized stuff, where this will be something new and different that hasn’t been done before.”

Exciting times!

Incidentally, you can catch an interview with Tony Lee and artist Matthew Dow Smith recorded at the Gallifrey convention earlier this year on Radio Free Skaro #186 – The Yalta Conference
