Steven Moffat described new TARDIS pairing Matt Smith and Karen Gillan as “exactly right” in his recent interview with Doctor Who Magazine (issue 418), and recalled the moment Gillan auditioned
Casting director Andy Pryor pulled together a list of girls that apparently all did a good job – Moffat was certainly impressed with them all and it seems he would have had a tough job before Gillan showed up.
“Karen was the very last person we saw and she just fitted better. She was just exactly right. And exactly right with Matt, in that she’s a bit kookier, I suppose. A bit madder.”
“This was his first experience of seeing what it’s like when somebody just completely nails the part,” he said. “To this day, I still don’t know how Karen didn’t know she had got the part. She didn’t have a clue.”
Sure, we’re yet to see anything of this pairing on screen – but I reckon from what The Grand Moff has been telling us recently that this TARDIS team is going to be one to remember for years to come!
