Revealed in red stop stinker tabloid The Sun today, news that a current EastEnders star is to appear in the new series of Doctor Who opposite Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith.
Nina Wadia – scary post office lady Zainab in the depressing soap – will become the third member of the Goodness Gracious Me comedy team to gain a Doctor Who connection. Colleague Meera Syal has already recorded her scenes for Season 31 (episodes 8 and 9 according to IMDb) while Syal’s husband – Kumars at no 42 star Sanjeev Baskar – appeared in the Big Finish Eighth Doctor season closer World Wide Web.
“It was brilliant to be let out for a couple of days to do something else and it was great working with Matt Smith.
“I play a bit of a baddie. And yes, like my EastEnders character Zainab, she’s not a very pleasant woman – but at least I’m human and not some kind of strange alien life-form.”
Nina added: “I play a doctor – more of a psychiatric doctor than a traditional medical one.”
We’re just weeks away from the Steven Moffat era of Doctor Who ladies and gentlemen, and I bet you can’t wait…
(We would link to the article in The Sun, but we don’t out of principle.)
