Colin Baker in LACS Promo

Colin Baker - not a fan of fox huntingSixth Doctor actor Colin Baker has taken part in a video from The League Against Cruel Sports, released to coincide with the controversial ban on hunting with dogs in 2005.

It makes for interesting viewing – featuring the reactions of Baker (who played the Doctor from 1984-1986) and other celebrities, the film also shows actress Annette Crosbie, Time Team presenter Tony Robinson and naturalist Bill Oddie as they watch footage of traditional hunting. Former Hollyoaks star (and one-time girlfriend of Cristiano Ronaldo) Gemma Atkinson finds the images particularly upsetting.

Colin himself remarks:

“This isn’t nature… this is an abomination.”

The banning of hunting with dogs – effectively a ban on fox-hunting was a blanket attack on the British countryside by the British government in a badly-managed attempt to prevent a sport seen as archaic. However by making fox hunting with dogs illegal, the government has only driven the “sport” underground (many claim it is even more popular now) while failing wholesale to manage alternative activities and incomes for thousands of businesses throughout the UK countryside.

It is a sorry state of affairs.
