Time Lords, Rock Stars and Passion

The BBC have released details of their new season of programmes in a list that features no more than a mention of Doctor Who…

Alongside the return of the Doctor for a new series starring Matt Smith and Karen Gillan under the stewardship of Steven Moffat, the 2010 Winter/Spring season of BBC programming also features lead appearances from former Doctor Who stars Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper!

Starring in Kay Mellor’s A Passionate Woman, Piper appears with Sue Johnston as two stages in the life of Betty, a wife and mother who falls deeply in love with a Polish neighbour, with disastrous consequences.

Meanwhile Ninth Doctor actor Christopher Eccleston returns to the BBC in Lennon Naked which charts the transition of Beatle John into an enduring and enigmatic icon.

Ben Stephenson, Controller, BBC Drama Commissioning, said: “I believe that the Winter/Spring line-up underlines our reputation as the home of Britain’s most creative and exciting drama. It is the place where new and established writers can realise their most imaginative work.

“Across our four channels, there are bold, modern new series and serials alongside unique and challenging single pieces. Where else will you find a Time Lord, a rock star and a vampire all in one season?”
