John Barrowman has been chatting openly recently about the future of Torchwood, revealing that the series is getting a fourth series – one that will be 13 episodes rather than the hoped for 5 parter Children of Earth follow up.

John Barrowman is set to return as Captain Jack Harkness in Torchwood Series 4Revealed at Collectormania on Sunday (thanks Casey) Barrowman has since repeated the news on the Steve Wright show on BBC Radio 2 this afternoon (hear it on BlogtorWho).

“We are discussing the future of Torchwood, because most definitely Torchwood will come back to the BBC,” Barrowman told the DJ. “We’re not sure when, because we have to sort out the logistics of the filming, and it’s already been said that it will be 13 episodes rather than five.”

With Captain Jack likely to survive whatever fate befalls earth this Christmas (naturally Barrowman is appearing in The End of Time) and Gwen and Rhys expecting a baby that should be due in the New Year, whatever format the new Torchwood takes they’ll need a few new team members – and possibly even a creche.

There’s no word yet on when Torchwood Series 4 will air, nor indeed on which channel. Hopefully Children of Earth did enough to get the series onto BBC One permanently…
