Big Finish Trailblazers

The state of British radio drama has been addressed in a recent blog entry on The Stage wesbite – and Doctor Who audio producers Big Finish are referenced as a company that is making audio drama projects financially successful without relying the BBC’s dominance of the sector.

It is of course rare to see Big Finish receive anything near the respect they deserve – this is partly no doubt to the face that their full-cast audio dramas are produced predominantly for the science-fiction fans (Sapphire and Steel and Judge Dredd are other titles they produce).

However it is with their move into offering MP3 downloads and low-price 99p downloads of the first episode of multi-episode stories that Big Finish have shown the way for many smaller companies, most of which were founded as a reaction to the restricted opportunities afforded by BBC Radio.
