Expected to be aired some time in late Autumn or over the Christmas period, the BBC DVD release of the Royal Shakespeare Company production of Hamlet starring David Tennant is scheduled for December 28th from 2entertain.
Starring David Tennant and Patrick Stewart along with a cast of largely principal players from the successful RSC production of 2008, Hamlet looks set to be one of the RSC’s most successful DVDs.
In this Royal Shakespeare Company production, the titular prince of Denmark, returns home to his family’s castle of Elsinore after years of attending school in Germany to find out his father has died and his uncle Claudius is the new king. To make matters worse, Claudius has married Hamlet’s mother, Queen Gertrude, whom he has unusually strong feelings for. Hamlet is visited by his father’s ghost, who asks him to seek revenge for his murder.
Originally expected to be broadcast in the Autumn, the release date of the DVD – after Christmas – suggests that it is likely to receive an airing on the BBC over the seasonal period.
Whether you catch Hamlet on TV or not, it’s available now for preorder from Amazon for just £12.98!
