No Advice From Tom

Former Time Lord Tom Baker has revealed that he shies away from offering advice to new Doctor Who Matt Smith, preferring instead to let the new star of the show find his own way.

Tom recording The Hornets' NestTom was speaking to the Daily Record as part of publicity for the upcoming Hornets’ Nest 5-part series of adventures from BBC Audiobooks which begin with the release of The Stuff of Nightmares in September.

“I don’t give advice to the young. I have often noticed that the young shudder at the sight of the old, so I keep silent.”

True to form, Tom is also complimentary of the outgoing David Tennant, despite a distinct lack of encouraging noises when Christopher Eccleston was cast in 2004.

Baker added: “David Tennant is a wonderful actor, a huge star. He is young and handsome. I never saw him in that role, but then, I never saw myself as The Doctor either.”
