Mike Skinner in Doctor Who?

The Streets’ Mike Skinner has claimed today that he’s appearing in the next series of Doctor Who – before quickly retracting his premature Tweet.

Mike Skinner in Doctor Who?Using the popular Twitter network, Skinner revealed:

“What a week – I can’t tell you about it, but put it this way, I’ve got a part in Doctor Who.”

Evidently he either decided this was a little indiscreet or someone from the BBC decided for him – the post was removed with the update:

“And just like that, the tweet is deleted.”

A Doctor Who representative has issued the usual BBC line:

“We do not comment on speculation surrounding possible characters in the show.”

So with little to go on but a Tweet, what can we draw from this? Well one thing is for certain – the Twitter account concerned is certainly that of the unique musician. There can be no case of online fakers as with the case of a former EastEnders actor earlier this year.

Also Skinner has a good relationship with his fans – he’s successfully bridged the worlds of underground and mainstream credibility, a rare achievement.

It’s likely therefore that Mike Skinner is in Doctor Who in the 2010 series – in some capacity…
