Doctor Who on BBC America 2010

Season 31 of Doctor Who will air in the USA on BBC America, reports Digital Spy, with the episodes airing shortly after their UK debuts!

Amy Pond and the Eleventh DoctorAfter the flirtation with the Sci Fi Channel (let’s ignore it’s simple and irrelevant rebranding) Doctor Who has found a much more natural home on BBC America, and recently The Next Doctor and Planet of the Dead have both aired on the network, with the Easter special pulling in 657,000 viewers.

The Digital Spy report also indicates that Doctor Who will air in the USA in Q2 of 2010 – as these airings are taking part shortly after the UK ones it’s safe to expect the Matt Smith era to kick off around Easter as with previous years.

Don’t rule out the possibility of a “close to UK debut” broadcast leading to BBC America airing the full run of Doctor Who 2010 before some episodes have aired in the UK – the FIFA World Cup begins in June next year and there have already been suggestions that BBC One might split the series into two halves to accomodate this…
