Torchwood Radio Behind the Scenes

Before we get to Children of Earth however, we’ve had the three rather interesting audio adventures on Radio 4’s Afternoon Play strand this week – and would you believe there’s some behind the scenes stuff available related to the three productions?

This is mint content though – it’s by the producer and director of the three plays, Kate McAll and gives a rare insight into the nightmare of organising the talent on a radio drama into a schedule that can then be rehearsed and recorded. John Barrowman for instance was pretty tricky to book…

Negotiations begin with John Barrowman’s agent. ‘Can it be done in one day?’ they ask, optimistically. ‘No,’ we reply, ‘it can’t! We need him for six.’ ‘Ok,’ they counter, ‘How about one and a half?’ In the end we have to settle for two days, the only two days available in fact between the end of John’s Saturday night television show and the start of his nationwide concert tour. We grab them and sign him up.

Fantastically all three of the Torchwood Afternoon Plays are available as permanent downloads form the BBC!

These DRM-free mp3 versions of the 3 episodes are available to download until the end of their alloted “7 days after broadcast” – so act quickly!
