Amy Who?

British tabloid The Mirror has published some bare faced speculation about the name of the Eleventh Doctor’s companion (played by Karen Gillan) as the first scenes of the Matt Smith era prepare to begin shooting on Monday.

Karen Gillan as the Doctor's new companion. With expectation (again, Mirror-lead) that the first pictures of Matt Smith and Karen Gillan will be available on Tuesday, the paper reckons that the flame haired beauty will be playing “Amy”.

She’ll also be Scottish, which for a London-based newspaper seems to be massive news…

My on-set spy whispers: “Karen’s Scottish so it seems reasonable she keeps her accent, even though David didn’t.”

Wow. That’s like heavy, man. Next we’ll be seeing laws preventing Scots from using native accents at all.

Within 10 years everyone on TV will be using a new form of RP.

Or perhaps the whole accent thing can be left behind. Karen is perfectly adept at all manner of accents – whether she uses her own or another is totally down to the character, not whether David Tennant did or not.
