Forbidden Planet Credit Card Fraud

(Due to the serious nature of this story, we’ve removed it from it’s original home in the April Doctor Who Figures update.)

A story that is affecting Doctor Who and other fan communities at the moment (you can find the latest updates on it here) concerns worries over orders placed with sci-fi merchandise retailer Forbidden Planet.

Several people who had made purchases with Forbidden Planet via their credit card (some people had only spent with Forbidden Planet on their card) started to get strange payments referring to companies such as O2, despite the fact that many of these customers had no past business with them at all.

As the story gained interest, more and more people came forward with similar experiences and over the internet there have now been more than 40 cases reported. Of course many may have gone unnoticed or not been reported as well.

Forbidden Planet are looking into it but for now the best advice is not to buy through Credit Card but pay by cheque (information on how to do that can be found on the link above).

Update April 28th

We’ve had this forwarded from Doug Taylor of Forbidden Planet Mail Order (www.forbiddenplanet.com) which should provide some clarity to the issue:

ForbiddenPlanet.com have conducted a thorough assessment of our website, shopping basket and internal systems and have found no evidence of any security issues. We would like to assure our customers that our site is secure and that their details are at no risk of exposure.

Should any customers need to update their card details we advise them to use the secure login on www.forbiddenplanet.com or to call our customer services team directly.
