John Barrowman on Matt Smith

Prior to an interview with the Daily Record recently, Torchwood and Doctor Who star John Barrowman had a chance meeting with none other than Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith…

The interview is mainly to cover Barrowman’s entertainment commitments for 2009, and focuses heavily on his new BBC One Saturday Night variety show Tonight’s The Night – a sort of Jim’ll Fix It meets The X Factor.

So, to the point – what did he make of Doctor 11?

"I feel like I’ve had an affair against David because I’ve met the new guy. I liked him but, David, my heart is always with you."

John said: "He walked right past me and he and I sat and had a chat. He’s got some big shoes to fill when David leaves, but he’ll bring his own spin to Doctor Who.

"He’s very handsome, very quirky but striking. I think he’ll do very well."

John seems confident meanwhile that he will be back inDoctor Who beyond the departure of David Tennant – making him a modern day equivalent of the Brigadier by appearing with multiple successive Doctors…

"Well, we can’t be greedy and Captain Jack will still be there. We don’t know yet, but the man who is now in charge, Steven Moffat was one of the ones who created Captain Jack and he will always return to help the Doctor when he’s in need."

John Barrowman will be on television throughout 2009 – almost constantly.
