The Other Matt Smith…

BBC Wiltshire DJ Matt Smith was deluged with emails, text messages and phonecalls earlier this month (it’s claimed) following the announcement that his namesake had been cast as the new Doctor Who.

I wonder if there was a hint of regret in his voice as he revealed to ThisIsWiltshire.co.uk:

“I do like the show and think if the BBC had offered me the role I would have considered taking it – depending on my companion of course.”

Despite the fact that 8 million people tuned in for the big reveal, Matt Smith (BBC Wiltshire) was still the centre of attention as lots of people "got the wrong guy" – something that has plagued the radio presenter for years.

“There was another Matthew Smith in my class at school,” he said. “And we even have another Matthew Smith who works here at the BBC occasionally.

“So it’s definitely a common name. Sharing the name makes me think it might be worth putting in for an interview with Matt.

“It’s a while before he starts in the part but it certainly has to be worth a go.”

Should be interesting…
