New Doctor Who to be Named!

The BBC has confirmed that the identity of the 11th Doctor Who will be confirmed on Saturday January 3rd 2009, during a special broadcast of Doctor Who Confidential.

The actor will be the star of the fifth series of Doctor Who since the show’s return, and the first under the watch of incoming Executive Producer Steven Moffat.

As anticipated by fans, the new Doctor – heavily expected to be Survivors star Paterson Joseph – will appear during a retrospective of all 10 Doctors to date on BBC One at 5.35pm.

New Head of Drama at BBC Wales Piers Wenger Doctor Who says:

"We believe the actor is going to bring something very special to the role and will make it absolutely their own.

"I just can’t wait to tell everyone who it is – it has been a nail-biting Christmas trying to keep this under wraps!"

The announcement will cap a feverish few months in Doctor Who fandom, a period which reached an early (and frankly bizarre) peak in mid-November when it was expected that the name had been leaked, and was about to be published in the Sunday tabloids.

We await the name with the same rabid anticipation that we await the Steven Moffat era…

Incidentally, if you’re still in denial, this special Doctor Who Confidential is entitled The Eleventh Doctor
