Matt Smith – Local Hero

Blimey this 11th Doctor business is certainly keeping the papers happy, not to mention the local politicians.

Despite the face that Matt Smith is yet to shoot a scene and the Cloister Bell hasn’t even started ringing on the Tenth Doctor’s life, the 26 year old is to receive civic honours at the next meeting of Northampton Borough Council.

Councillor Tim Hadland (Matt Smith, Weston) called a motion to applaud the actor for securing the "the highest profile role in television."

"Northampton is proud of Matt Smith.

"We’ll all be following his progress through the centuries, forwards and backwards, in the coming years I’m sure.

"And this is just the sort of good news that we all need."

And Cllr Hadland isn’t the only one to think this way.  Councillor Paul Varnsverry (Jon Pertwee, West Hunsbury) agrees with the motion and intends to throw his weight behind any campaign.

"It’s welcome to see one of our local talents achieving international recognition.

"So if it’s the will of the council to offer civic congratulations, I’ll support it."
