Well we’ve been waiting a good while since the first occasion when a casting announcement concerning the identity of the man (or woman) to play the Eleventh Doctor was heavily expected to be made (or at least leaked). This Saturday (3rd January 2009) provides the perfect backdrop, however.
5.35pm on BBC One is the timeslot for an unexpected broadcast of Doctor Who Confidential. Why unexpected? Well, it isn’t common to broadcast DWC without a brand new episode of Doctor Who to join it. Listed as follows:
It has been 45 years since the TARDIS first landed on BBC1. Join us as we look at the lives of the ten Doctors, their most heroic moments and terrifying adventures, as well as the monsters, costumes and companions which have defined them.
…one has to ask – why?
And the only reasonable answer that makes any sense (other than a 35 minute space filler, hardly needed on a Saturday teatime) is that some sort of major Doctor Who announcement is imminent.
Add to that the fact that this Saturday sees the Premier League teams join the FA Cup competition in its 3rd Round, then a lot more people could be expected to tune in than is normal for the late afternoon timeslot.
We’ll wait and see what happens…
