The Next Doctor on Children in Need

If the two minutes we saw tonight of David Tennant and David Morrissey in The Next Doctor are anything to go by – and it seems that we saw the pre-credit sequence – then we’re in for a fun Christmas 2008!

A Christmas card-perfect scene, "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" without the robot Santa’s and roasting chestnuts – with the snow falling, you could almost smell the chestnuts…

As all good teaser trailers should, this Children in Need exclusive asked more questions than it answered:

With Cybershades approaching, a buxum companion and a sly wink, this alternative Doctor looks like he has it all covered – but is he really the Doctor?

If not, how does he know about the Time Lords and the TARDIS?  Where did he get his Sonic Screwdriver from?

However if this is truly a future Doctor, why doesn’t he recognise his earlier self?

And just how do the Cybermen fit into all of this?

It’s damn intriguing stuff, no doubt with a whiff of the Big Finish play The One Doctor about it – but that’s just idle speculation for now.

One thing is for sure – The Next Doctor will be a Christmas treat that we simply won’t forget!
