If ever there was any Doctor Who rumour you wanted to stay out of the papers and appear as a complete surprise, then a Doctor Who special, co-starring Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor during the Time War is it.
By publishing it in the press, this story is now no longer a spoiler as it concerns principal casting.
The rumour has been doing the rounds for a couple of years now, and just last week gained quite a bit of weight… and now thanks to The Sun newspaper (which we don’t like to, but you’ve got Google so you can find this I expect) the rumour has entered the public domain.
So. First of all. Let me get this out of the way, if indeed the story is true.
BLOODY PAUL MCGANN!
McGann is apparently scheduled to begin filming in October or November for one of the four feature-length specials to be broadcast in 2009.
At this stage he is allegedly shown in flashback, without his Byronesque curls that we all remember from 1996 and "battered" from the Time War.
The insider (there’s always one) said:
“Fans loved Paul’s Doctor and feel he was never given the proper chance to shine. Reference is often made to the Time War which wiped out the Time Lords and this will give them a taste of that.”
Amen to that!
