Rumours have gathered pace on this idea, with The News of the World finally publising on Sunday that the final two episodes of Doctor Who to be produced by Russell T Davies will feature filming in the USA…
"Hmm, let me see… my last bit of Doctor Who, can’t really devote a full year to it but if we budget it as a two part drama of type X, we can spend about half a standard series’ budget on it… Mr Tennant, get your passport!"
Those words might well have drifted through Russell T Davies’ mind in some order or other (or not) if anything in this particular rumour – and there are many around right now – is true.
The BBC insider – for there can only be one – apparently let slip:
"Doctor Who already has a huge following in the States. It’s on the Sci Fi Channel and is watched by millions of people there every week.
"But two specials in America, with a US setting and a US assistant, will take it to another level. David Tennant is already gaining a huge following and this will make him really hot property."
An American assistant? Thought it had been done.
Twice…
