New Doctor Rumours

Initially, I was going to leave this one alone – but thanks to the Doctor’s apparent regeneration at the end of The Stolen Earth, rumours are alight once more that either Jimmy Nesbitt or Robert Carlyle are set to step into David Tennant’s very large shoes.

Speaking to Graham Norton (so says What’s On TV) Nesbitt revealed that despite ill-informed bookies offering 6-1, he isn’t aware of any plans for him to be the next star of the show.

"I know nothing about that. I wouldn’t put a lot of money on it."

Oops.  Evidently a few people have… probably the same eejits that voted for the charmless Nesbitt to replace DT in a survey held at Earl’s Court’s Doctor Who Exhibition.  Apparently 714 people (the type that watch any old tosh, I imagine) voted for talent vacuum Nesbitt, giving him an obscene lead over Simon Pegg.

Which brings us to the only realistic candidate – Robert Carlyle, who has seen rumours of his involvement reborn with The Stolen Earth’s final scene.

Both talented and charismatic, Carlyle will be the superior choice when the time comes…

Christian Cawley

A long-term Doctor Who fan, Christian grew up watching the show and has early memories of the Graham Williams era. His favourite stories are Inferno, The Seeds of Doom and Human Nature (although The Empty Child, Blink and Utopia all come close). When he’s not bossing around the news team, Christian is a freelance writer specialising in mobile technology and domestic computing, and enjoys classic rock, cooking and spending time in the countryside with his wife and young children. You can find him on Twitter, Facebook and Google+.
