Doctor Who – Diverse

100 people have been surveyed in a report commissioned by the UK’s Channel 4 after the alleged racially-motivated bullying of Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty on Celebrity Big Brother.

The outcome of the report has been pretty damning, but Doctor Who is one of a handful of high-profile programmes to come away with any credibility.

The report’s leader, Trevor Phillips – head of the Equality and Human Rights Commission – said TV companies remained "hideously white".

Doctor Who was singled out for praise by some respondents. Black members of focus groups singled out Doctor Who – which featured black actress Freema Agyeman as the doctor’s assistant.

Doctor Who has also of course featured a starring role for Noel Clarke as Mickey Smith and also featured veteran British actor Don Warrington.
